Work For Us
About Omaka Medical Centre
We are based in a purpose-built medical centre, 7 minutes drive from the centre of Blenheim. We have a minor surgery suite, a dedicated triage area and plenty of specialised clinic rooms. We are 100% owned by South Link Health Services, under the umbrella of the South Link Education Trust.
Our team includes 6 General Practitioners, a Nursing Director (working across this practice and our other Blenheim practice Redwoodtown Medical Centre), 4 Nurses, 2 Practice Assistants, 2 Admin/Receptionists and a Business Manager also working across both facilities. Our team are hugely experienced in primary healthcare and include a Fellow and a Member of the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners.
We are part of Kimi Hauora Wairau (Marlborough PHO Trust) who are our PHO.
We care for approximately 5900 patients.
We are proactive in ensuring equity and we have mandatory training for Cultural competency, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Privacy and Child Safety.
We conduct full inductions onsite for all new staff members. We provide ongoing training to keep up to date with regulations and have weekly full team meetings.
We are open Monday to Friday and operate morning and afternoon sessions. Each session has twelve 15-minute patient appointments.
We use the latest version of cloud-based Medtech Evolution as our Patient Management System, and we have Manage My Health, so patients can look at their results, book appointments and order repeat prescriptions.
We have a Dunedin-based South Link Health IT team who are supportive and knowledgeable and assist whenever we encounter issues. Our Dunedin team also provide Finance, Payroll, HR, Recruitment, Buildings, Marketing & Communications services to us.
We have strong relations with primary and secondary services, as well as the Pharmacy on the same premise as us.
We are Foundation-accredited.
About Blenheim
Blenheim is at the top of the South Island and is part of the Marlborough region. We regularly take out the national sunshine stakes and have a fantastic year-round climate. 51 900 people call Marlborough home and we have all the facilities of a larger centre, but without the cost, travel time or stress! We’re a sporty place and there are many sports and leisure activites to get involved with including rowing, sailing, skiing, biking and all our favourite sports.
We have great schooling for our young people and our local Institute of Technology delivers tertiary study. Housing is more affordable here than in many other centres both to rent or to buy.
We have a local public hospital as well as a private hospital in Blenheim. We are well supported by our secondary colleagues.
Marlborough as a region has grown into a multicultural society, so much so that we have an annual Multicultural Festival. We have a lot of seasonal workers that come from the Pacific Islands and all over the world for our viticulture (our biggest industry). We are New Zealand’s predominant wine growing region, with approximately 400,000 tonnes of grapes harvested from 30,000 hectares of vineyards around the district.
We have a local airport providing daily services to Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. Picton and the ferry to the North Island is only 30 minutes drive.
